Orihuela

Colegio Santo Domingo and the last remaining gate of the city wall

When we arrived in Orihuela in the evening we took a walk through the center and decided we will need more time for this historic town.

Looking into the Cathedral

The next day we visited the Colegio Santo Domingo, which was an important university and is now a big school. It is the biggest national monument of Valencia province with 18.000 square meters. The library of the university was the first public library in Spain founded in the 16th century.

The church of the  complex fascinated us with its abundant baroque interior.

From the center leads a street up to the Seminar of the Dominicans and further around the mountain until we reached the palm grove of Orihuela - the second largest after Elche.

In the afternoon we decided to discover also the coast of Orihuela. We drove to Cabo Roig, where we found a parking directly at the coast path which used for a walk. (Parking: 37.917018, -0.721493)
